Heba Kadry got her start in the pro audio world at Houston's SugarHill Recording Studios, where she served as the studio manager and recording engineer. In 2007, she moved to New York to focus on mastering—and she has since mastered the releases of some of the most accomplished artists in indie rock and pop, including The Mars Volta, Slowdive, Lightning Bolt, and Beach House—as well as mixing Björk's Utopia. →
It was clear that the process of making Utopia was incredibly meaningful for all three of them. Collaborating with Björk was a one-of-a-kind experience, they said, but to be on a team with mostly women, working on such a transcendent, feminist record — that was something closer to groundbreaking. →
Today, Kadry caters mainly to independent labels and artists. One of her latest projects is filmmaker Jim Jarmusch’s evocative Paterson soundtrack. The film explores the quiet existence of a bus driver and his inventive wife; it takes a simultaneously deep and whimsical look at the importance of art in daily life. →
